Personnel Officer and Executive Assistant
Regular, full-time position with benefits, starting at $19.97/hr.  Responsible for executing the personnel functions for the City and providing office support services to the finance department.  Routinely deals with matters of a highly confidential nature.  Progressive development position beginning at Range 13 advancing to Range 15.

Executes personnel functions of the City consistent with the City Code and state and federal regulations.  Advises employees on benefit programs.  Serves as executive assistant to the finance director in performing a broad range of administrative tasks.  Organizes safety training.  Files claims and maintains orderly documentation for workers’ comp, OSHA, and risk management.

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree, or an Associates degree plus 4 years office experience, or 6 years office experience with progressively greater responsibility for administrative duties.  Work experience must include proficiency in word processing and desire Excel proficiency.  Strong organizational and time management skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Correctional Officer

The City of Seward is hiring a Correctional Officer. This is a regular full-time position with benefits, paying $18.09. This position is responsible for prisoner booking and detention and security work within the jail.  Duties include maintaining jail records, escorting prisoners and enforcing jail rules.  Applicants must be 21 years of age.

Requirements include: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Required to obtain, within 18 months from date of hire, an Alaska Police Standard Council Certificate for Corrections Officers.  State of Alaska F-3C form, can be obtained 224-4074 or email .

Deputy Finance Director

The City of Seward is hiring a 
Deputy Finance Director.  This is a regular, full-time position, with benefits, paying $28.22/hr. This position is responsible to manage, direct and oversee the accurate recording of all City receipts and expenditures, the preparation of monthly management reports, the proper valuation and recording of all City assets, and preparation for the annual audit. This position has primary responsibility for the accuracy of all accounting transactions of the City. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Finance Director but a great deal of latitude is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of the Accounting Technicians (4) and the Cashier/Receptionist. In the absence of the Finance Director, an employee in this position may temporarily assume full responsibility for the duties of the Finance Director. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this position establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Department and City employees, Council members, auditors, granting agencies and the public.

Bachelor’s degree from college in accounting, business administration, or public administration; and five years’ experience in governmental accounting or public accounting with supervisory responsibility; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Possession of additional certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accounting in the State of Alaska, or a Certified Public Accounting candidate, preferred. Significant public accounting experience is a requirement of this position.

Project Manager

The City of Seward is hiring a 
Project Manager
.  This is a regular, full time position paying $31.16/hr., with benefits.  This is a progressive position with a progressive pay scale topping off at $42.93/hr.  Position manages major government projects from concept to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget, while managing consultants, stakeholders and internal relationships as necessary.  Develops plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts.  Prepares reports, acts as liaison with contractors and consultants.  Utilizes project scheduling tools to maintain real-time status and progress of all city projects.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in construction management, architecture or engineering; and Seven years’ experience in architecture, engineering or in one or more of the building trades; or education and training in architecture, construction management; orAny engineering experience substantially equivalent to the above with a thorough understanding of construction terms and concepts.
