How to Report an Accident
An accident just occurred with possible injuries

If the accident just occurred and there are possible injuries immediately call 9-1-1 to report the accident. Be prepared to provide the following information to the dispatcher:

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Detailed location of the accident
  • The number of vehicles involved (if known)
  • The number of injured (if known)

The dispatcher will immediately dispatch police, fire and ambulance personnel to assist you.

An accident just occured and there are no injuries
Contact the Seward Police Department's non-emergency phone number (907) 224-3338 to report the accident.  Be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Location of the accident
  • The number of vehicles involved (if known)

Depending on the circumstances (location, amount of damage, etc) a police officer may respond to take the report and assist you in completing the required paperwork and contact a tow truck if needed.

If an officer does not respond:
  1. Complete a Certificate of Insurance if the total damage was over $500You can fill out a Certificate of Insurance form online heredownload the form here or get one from the Seward Police Department.
  2. If the total damage was over $2,000 or if the accident resulted in any injury you must fill out an Alaska Participant Crash Report (PAR) form.  You can fill one out online heredownload it here or get one from the Seward Police Department.

An accident occurred but was not reported
If an accident occurred and was not immediately reported you need to complete the following forms:

  1. If the total damage was over $500 a Certificate of Insurance must be filled out within 15 days of the accident to avoid cancelation of your drivers license due to the mandatory insurance law.  You can fill out a Certificate of Insurance form online here, download the form here or get one from the Seward Police Department.
  2. If the total damage was over $2,000 or if the accident resulted in any injury you must fill out an Alaska Participant Crash Report (PAR) form.  You can fill one out online heredownload it here or get one from the Seward Police Department.
