COMMUNITY SITUATION REPORT

April 17, 2020

 

This Community Situation Report is intended to keep the community of Seward updated and aware of resources available to them while being challenged with restrictions placed upon them due to the Coronavirus.  Updates indicated in RED

 

HEALTHCARE

 

Public Health

  • Public Health is responsible forinvestigating all contacts related to positive test results
  • Call 335-3400

 

 

Providence Hospital

  • All patients and staff in facility are wearing masks (Universal Masking)
  • Drive-thru testing every Wednesday from 6-7 pm; must have doctor’s order to receive test
  • Call 224-5205
  • Continuing to work on developing alternate care sites for surge preparation

 

 

Seward Community Health Center

Updated

  • Offering scheduled appointments Mon-Fri from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.; call 224-2273
  • Screening every patient at the door
  • All patients and staff in facility wearing masks (Universal Masking)

· Offering in-person pediatric visits & vaccinations at an alternate location for children 2 and younger

· Performing drive-thru testing daily on-site at SCHC provider’s request

· Telehealth appointments available with all our providers, including pediatrician and mental health

· Offering FREE 15-minute mental health screenings via telemedicine with Michael Craytor, LPC; he’s available for virtual drop-ins Tues-Thur, 12-2pm; log onto

SeaView Community Services

  • Telehealth services are running smoothly with lots of people accessing mental health and substance use counseling/therapy successfully. Continuing to accept new clients. Call 224-5257 M-F, 8am – 5 pm for appointment.
  • 24/7 Crisis Line continues – Call 224-3027
  • Free mental health/substance use screenings available by calling 224-5257 for appointment
  • Recovery Housing has ONE opening for those struggling with substance use. Call 224-5257
  • SeaView received significant funding from the Alaska Mental Health Trust to support delivery of behavioral health services for those affected by COVID-19
  • Also received funding from the Seward Community Foundation for basic and other behavioral health needs
  • Additional behavioral health support funding is pending and additional is available upon request for basic needs
  • Working on surge planning for clients and staff

Seward COVID19 Face Mask Project: 3000 masks in 30 days

 

Beginning April 18, Sew ‘N Bee Cozy will be providing community sewers with face mask kits that include supplies to make 10 masks – make for their family and friends, or donate back to the facemask community baskets. The face mask baskets will be distributed to the Post Office, Safeway, Sew ‘N Bee Cozy and the Senior Center (Third Ave entrance).

 

Project sponsored by the State of Alaska, Department of Health and Human Services.

A Community Message from Seward City Manager Scott Meszaros

The City of Seward is adopting the phase-in plan for reopening the State of Alaska and its individual communities.  Beginning April 24, 2020, the State of Alaska begins phase 1-A of its “Reopen Alaska Responsibly Plan.”  The terms of this plan and its impact on Seward businesses can be found in State of Alaska Public Health Mandate 16, which is posted on the City website at www.cityofseward.us [see below].

As many Seward businesses move towards opened doors this weekend, please remember that our community remains vulnerable to COVID-19 and we must all continue to do our part to reduce the risk of infection among Seward’s residents and its visitors. 

In preparation for the City’s own reopening of public facilities and City offices, the City extended public facility closures until May 3, 2020. The City administration and staff will be working diligently to develop a responsible reopening plan for City offices before May 3rd. The purpose of such a plan will be to ensure the public health and safety when entering City-owned and operated facilities, as well as to protect City employees from COVID-19 exposure. 

While the City of Seward remains optimistic about the State of Alaska’s “Reopen Alaska Responsibly Plan,” we will continue to diligently monitor the progression of COVID-19 within Seward and the social distancing and other measures necessary to combat it.  I would also like to express my sincere gratitude on behalf of the City to all the businesses who have submitted mutual aid agreements and/or posted business protocols and measures on their entrances.  Your collaboration and excellent corporate citizenship are essential during these difficult times.
