plain text version of press release below:

SEWARD, ALASKA (May 6, 2026) – Seward Fire Department has launched a new app for use by the community to improve communications and emergency responses. The new app, called MyLocalSafety, is free to all members of the community, and the Seward Fire Department encourages everyone in the community to download the app to their mobile devices.

Through the MyLocalSafety app (also known as MyLS), members of the community can upload information about their family, their home and their pets to a secure platform that will allow emergency responders to know important information before arriving on scene. This will allow them to respond more effectively to emergencies. Each resident can decide what and how much information to upload but having advance information while en-route to the scene about the particular needs of elderly, disabled and/or children in the home can help emergency responders save valuable time. Similarly, providing information about any particular hazards at home (such as the location of propane or gas tanks), about the location of gas and electricity shut-offs, and about any unique access issues (such as driveway gates, long or narrow driveways, or the presence of solar panels on the roof) can greatly aid emergency responders.

The MyLocalSafety app will also allow the Seward Fire Department to effectively communicate with the community about important safety and other valuable information in a way that can easily be updated and communicated right through the app.

According to Chief Crites “We are excited to bring this app to our community and are confident that this will help us in responding to emergencies. This is the digital equivalent of the old ‘save my child’ and ‘save my pet’ window stickers, but far better. The information entered in this app will populate right within the digital mapping tools of the IamResponding app that we already use to receive emergency alerts, so this information will immediately show on a tool that we are already using. We are very hopeful that the community will use this free app so that we can better protect their homes and families.”
The MyLocalSafety app is available for download for free from both the Apple App Store for Apple devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices. More information and links to download the app can be found at www.MyLocalSafety.com. After downloading the app, enter code number 816954 to add the Seward Fire Department to your MyLocalSafety app.
