Electric Department Town Hall May 28th

Post Date:05/15/2026 1:48 PM

The future direction of Seward’s Electric Utility is going to be one of the biggest decisions our community has made in decades.

The last time the structure of the utility changed was in 1938, when the people of Seward voted to transition from a privately owned electric company to a municipally owned utility. That decision helped shape the future of our community for generations.

Now, nearly 90 years later, we are once again considering which direction best serves Seward for the future.

Join us for the Seward Electric Department Town Hall on May 28th at the KM Rae Building.
🕔 Doors Open: 5:00 PM
🕠 Program Begins: 5:30 PM
🍴 Light food and refreshments will be provided.

During this Town Hall, we will take a deeper look at the economic differences between the potential utility structure options that have been discussed throughout this process, including:
• Remaining municipal
• Forming a municipal authority
• Selling to an existing Railbelt cooperative
• Creating a locally owned cooperative

Our goal is to enable the community to help shape the utility's future direction through grassroots, open, and transparent process.

We hope you will join the conversation and help shape Seward’s energy future.
