Seward Preparations Continue for Coronavirus

Seward, Alaska - City of Seward officials met today for the second time with community healthcare and other representatives to continue discussions regarding preparations for safeguarding and preparing the community for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) activity in the community.

Seward residents can be assured that the City is taking proactive measures to plan and coordinate the mitigation and response to this public health concern. The situation is evolving daily, and City officials, healthcare representatives, and community representatives are staying in close contact with state and federal authorities for the most current information.

The most important message for the citizens of Seward and the surrounding area is to slow down and be mindful of your own behavior. Take personal responsibility for mitigating the spread of this virus by following these simple guidelines: maintain a six foot distance from anyone who is sick, thoroughly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, cover coughs and sneezes, stay home if you do not feel well, and regularly clean frequently touched objects and surfaces. Regular soap and water is very effective against this virus when applied thoroughly.

For citizens interested in taking a self-assessment, Providence Hospital released an online self-assessment tool that is available at Citizens can also call 211 to obtain a free healthcare screening from medical professionals. If you suspect you have been exposed or feel like you have flu or cold-like symptoms, especially if accompanied by a fever, please call ahead to your healthcare facility and speak with a nurse before visiting a clinic or hospital.
