The Community Development Department is responsible for various work products including long and short-range planning, special area plans, permitting, development, business license reviews, special use permits and variances, and zoning administration and enforcement. Community Development Staff support and assist the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission.

Mission Statement

The Community Development Department has three separate but related functions:

  • Provide support, infrastructure, and advocacy for a healthy community and economic growth.
  • Promote the public health, safety, and general welfare of Seward residents by providing and enforcing planning and land use regulations within the City.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for managing City resources, making informed decisions, and expediting work processes.
